Official Indian Passport Photo Requirements (2026)

• Dimensions: 35mm × 45mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm). This is the MEA standard.
• Face Coverage: Your face must occupy 70–80% of the total photo area.
• Background: Plain white background. No patterns, shadows, or gradients.
• Expression: Neutral expression with mouth closed. Both eyes open.
• Glasses: Not recommended and increasingly rejected by automated systems. Remove them.
• Head Covering: Not allowed, except for genuine religious belief.
• Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI for physical prints submitted to PSK.
• Recency: Photo must be recent — taken within the last 6 months.

1. Natural Light: Stand facing a window during daytime. This eliminates harsh facial shadows. Avoid fan-cast ceiling lights — biometric systems are sensitive to eye-area shadows.
